Camden County FIRST Lego League Pilot Program
In 2019, our team started an initiative to start 7 FIRST Lego League (FLL) teams in our county. This initiative was created to inspire local middle schools in our county to participate in the pilot program to learn more about STEAM principles that are exhibited through FIRST. Our team used the 2018 FLL competition "Into Orbit" for the pilot program to introduce the students to FIRST and what a typical season would include. Team 203 provided the kit-of-parts, a competition table, and mentorship from student members for each team. At the end of each team's build season, our school hosted a competition to test their robots. This competition modeled what a regular one would look like and included the research presentation, pit judges, etc. Team 203 hopes this experience will inspire the teams to continue to participate in FIRST and its programs in the future. Each team agreed that they will continue to participate in FLL and install the program in their district. For more information, please contact one of our mentors. |
Summer STEM Camp
Since 2015, our team continues to provide STEAM summer camps for middle school students living in the Camden County area. The camp is a two week long program and is offered at both of our school’s campuses: Gloucester Township and Pennsauken, allowing student participants to gain mechanical and technical skills through a friendly robotics competition. We currently hold a Level 1 program for beginners and a Level 2 program for returning members. This year, we are starting a coding camp! Team 203 continues to provide scholarships for disadvantaged students to participate in the camp. To sign up for one of our summer programs, visit our School's website. |
Technology Challenge
Team 203 sponsors an annual Technology Challenge for middle school students in the Camden County area to participate. Through this event, teams of students compete in a design/build technology challenge, a STEAM knowledge bowl, an essay and presentation, and other related competitive elements. Every year, there is a different theme ranging from flying hot dogs to dropping eggs. This program allows students to be engaged in a competition that encourages their appetite for STEAM. STEM Workshops with Girl Scouts
In an attempt to close the gap for women in STEAM fields, our team hosts regular workshops for Girl Scouts in our area aligned with their STEAM program. These workshops are set up to engage the Scouts in a challenging learning environment, while testing their appetite for STEAM and robotics. Student leaders develop lesson plans and teach Scouts how to code, problem solve, apply skills to real-world problems, build robots, and earn badges. Our team currently works with Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors. To sign up for our workshops, please email our mentor. |
